J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) was formed after Haiti’s 2010 earthquake to support many of the people who were left homeless in the country’s capital of Port-au-Prince. After helping over 60,000 Haitians relocate from tent cities that sprung up after the earthquake, J/P HRO continues to focus on building stronger communities in Haiti, providing services in the areas of medical support, education, housing, community development and reforestation.
The Ray of Light Foundation provided funding for J/P HRO to build l'Ecole de l'Espoir, (the School of Hope) a primary school providing quality education for children of families in the Petionville Club camp. The school now serves 250 students and is located in the local neighborhood of Delmas 32. It targets students most marginalized in the community because of poverty or other special needs such as learning disabilities and behavioral issues.
