Founded in 2006 by Madonna, Raising Malawi’s mission is to bring an end to the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's orphans and vulnerable children. Raising Malawi supports community-based organizations that provide these children and their caregivers with critical resources including food, clothing, shelter, education, medical care, and psychosocial support.

“I am proud of the programs we support here to assist orphans and vulnerable children, and look forward to continuing to provide them with the resources they need to thrive.”

Madonna's Support

Madonna and Raising Malawi support orphans and vulnerable children through community based organizations, including providing educational and vocational scholarships. Raising Malawi also funds the critical work of Dr. Eric Borgstein, one of Malawi’s only pediatric surgeons, and partners with Grassroot Soccer to teach HIV awareness through soccer.

In November 2014, Madonna visited Malawi, where she was named Goodwill Ambassador for Child Welfare by the President, and launched a new project with the Ministry of Health to construct a pediatric surgery and intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
